NuPhy Air60 v2 Review: The Portable Keyboard That Fixed My Mobile Workflow
If you hate typing on a laptop but love working from coffee shops, this little slab of aluminum is the answer.
I love my MacBook, but typing on it for 8 hours feels like tapping on a glass table. There's no travel, no feedback, and zero soul. I wanted the satisfying "thock" of my home keyboard, but I didn't want to carry a brick in my backpack.
The limitations of laptop keyboards
I love my MacBook, but typing on it for 8 hours feels like tapping on a glass table. There's no travel, no feedback, and zero soul. I wanted the satisfying "thock" of my home keyboard, but I didn't want to carry a brick in my backpack.
Bridge mode and design
The Air60's superpower is its feet. The bottom rubber feet are designed to slot perfectly between the rows of a MacBook's keys. You can place the Air60 directly on top of your laptop keyboard. It leaves your trackpad accessible and keeps your screen close. It turns a 13-inch Air into a productivity monster.
Typing experience and switches
I use the Moss switches (tactile). They have a nice bump at the very top of the press, which prevents accidental keystrokes. It's not "gaming cafe" loud; it's a polite, deep clack that sounds premium. Plus, it keeps the dedicated arrow keys, which is rare for a keyboard this small.
✅ The Good
- Fits perfectly on top of MacBook keyboards
- Dedicated arrow keys in a 60% layout
- Incredible build quality (aluminum frame)
- Hot-swappable switches and QMK/VIA support
- Rock-solid 2.4G wireless connection
❌ The Bad
- Right shift key is smaller to fit the arrows
- Battery life with RGB on is just okay
- Expensive compared to non-mechanical travel options
The bottom line: Should you buy it?
If you are a writer, coder, or anyone who works from coffee shops and cares about their tools, yes. It's an investment that improves the tactile quality of every word you type. If you need a full function row, look at the larger NuPhy Air75.
